"Portal:Medals"

This is a nice idea! However, I question the use of "Portal:Medals" as the page to have value though. Some wikis use this namespace, and ones that don't will have this show up as an article page! I think it would be better to either have this use the "Project:" namespace, or probably even better using "MediaWiki:Custom-Medals" ("Custom-" making the page whitelisted). Hello! Originally it was 'Project:Medals'. Just messed up with 'Portal' while writing this page. Thanks for spoting! FANMADE_Luna_S1_flying.gifKopcap9416:32, 30/12/2015
Ah, cool. No problem! It'll be cool to see what wikis end up using this :) And these kinda remind me of Barnstars, only "officially" awarded (so kinda like the baby of barnstars and Wikia achievements =p). Fewfre 🔎 K🧀19:52 Wed, 30 Dec 2015

Does this script works? Because I added it on my wiki but I think it doesn't work... :/

Doesn't work

The script doesn't work. I only see parts of the code. Is there a mistake from me? http://de.barbar.wikia.com/wiki/Barbar_Wikia:Medals -- DarkBarbarian.png Barbar (talk) 16:13, August 8, 2016 (UTC)

Grey Text

I’ve installed this on the Diep.io Wiki, however, the text appears to be a very faint grey, instead of the black version in the screencap. Is there a way to control the color, or is this just a bug that I am experiencing? If it is a bug, is there a known fix? Thanks.
~Ursuul 16:34, December 14, 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Not sure why script picked this color, but you're free to change it by adding code to CSS:
.badgetooltip .badgetootipwindow { color: black; }

. FANMADE_Luna_S1_flying.gifKopcap9410:57, 23/12/2016

Thanks so much!

Do I need to disable achievements?

I'd like to use this in conjunction with Achievements, sort of like thebarnstars on wikipedia, will they interefere with Achievements? Or will they have to be disabled?I'll Get The Can!-FiveCraft 15:27, April 13, 2017 (UTC)

I don’t think it would cause any undue problems, because it creates an entirely separate Rail Module to host the Medals. It should just create two modules on top of each other, one for Achievements & one for Medals. It’d look odd, but it should work. Use ImportJS to import Medals just in case, that way you can quickly uninstall it in case bugs occur.

New Rail Modules

Fandom recently updated the right rail, so it would be appreciated if the Medals Module was redesigned to match these new ones.
UrsuulTalkCMDate9:51 PM Thursday, April 20, 2017 (UTC)

I believe latest revision should fix it. -- Cube-shaped garbage can 21:55, April 20, 2017 (UTC)
No. That removes the border, & the border-images can be removed from Project:Medals, but it doesn’t change the header into an <h2> like with the other Modules. It also looks…weird, the medals just floating in space randomly. Hence why I thought a redesign might be necessary, to match it to the new Modules.
UrsuulTalkCMDate10:02 PM Thursday, April 20, 2017 (UTC)
Hmm. I updated something again, does the latest revision's module header at least look consistent? -- Cube-shaped garbage can 22:17, April 20, 2017 (UTC)
It’s better, but I have an idea about how to make the floating medals less obtrusive. float:left; the Medals, maybe allow five medals with the extra room that gives you, & move the “More Info” button up into the <h2> & transform it into the new wds button, like this. I can help with the CSS I used if necessary.
UrsuulTalkCMDate10:23 PM Thursday, April 20, 2017 (UTC)
Hi there! I haven't work on this script for a long time and now my to-do list has came to it. In near month it will be rewritten, so I'll be happy for any ideas and design examples. Feel free to poke me on message wall (Ursuul, you can poke me on Slack C: ). FANMADE_Luna_S1_flying.gifKopcap9408:57, 29/6/2017

Взможность скрыть "х1"

Очень полезная вещь, но хотелось бы иметь возможность скрывать надпись "х1" у некоторых медалей. StickManReally (talk) 16:30, June 20, 2018 (UTC)

i18n

Hello! Can implement i18n-js to script? --40px-Greenflych1.gif Talk Mix Gerder Contributions 07:49, August 6, 2018 (UTC)

Bug report

I think the script is linked/bounded to the English Wiki and not locally to the non-English wiki.

This happened after the migration to fandom and the settings got automatically broken. When the settings were reset, it also edited itself a copy to the English wiki.

Philip Pines 1542 (talk) 02:49, October 28, 2018 (UTC)

Yep, there was a bug regarding non-English wikis that have moved to 'fandom.com' - they would load from and save to the English wiki instead. It should be fixed now, once approved by staff and after the caches refresh. - OneTwoThreeFall talk 07:51, October 29, 2018 (UTC)
The new codes are now live, but I still get the same problems from before as I reset the settings. Philip Pines 1542 (talk) 06:25, October 30, 2018 (UTC)
It may take a little while for the caches to clear too. If you'd like to force them to update, you can change the order of the imports on the MediaWiki:ImportJS page. - OneTwoThreeFall talk 08:26, October 30, 2018 (UTC)

Medal display order

It would be nice if admin had the opportunity to change medal display order from Settings window.--Frostvalor (talk) 18:03, January 27, 2019 (UTC)

Bug with medal description

Static.wikia.nocookie.net images don't work

When I was setting up medals for a wiki, I noticed that images urls with "static" in them don't work, but the ones with vignette do. For example, that url didn't work, but this one worked. I think there should be ability to upload images with static or at least a notice on script's page that it doesn't work. Thanks in advance!

Akodone ~ Talk 14:21, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Both of these URLs work for me. Are you sure there isn't something blocking them on your side? -- Cube-shaped garbage can 18:05, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
Maybe you mean that only vignette. images show up in the settings page? This is related to the behavior of hotlinking in wiki pages, and does not prevent the image from showing up in the medals box on user pages. In addition, I think you can replace static. with vignette. in the URL you are using and get the same image. Nam 18:25, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
Apparently it looks like static.wikia.nocookie images weren't in the script's allowed URLs. I submitted a change which should be approved soon and then those images should be allowed. Nam 22:58, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the fix! Akodone ~ Talk 05:38, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

Not working for users with an apostrophe in their username

Greetings. I've given a medal to a new user. However, the medal isn't showing up on their profile. I guess this's because of the apostrophe in their username. The script works perfectly fine for all the other users. How can I fix that?

--Ogurtsow (talk) 13:09, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

Hello!
After investigation, the problem is not the apostroph but an invisible character that was accidentally appended in your medals setting (this may happen when copy-pasting). Retype their username in the settings box and save, it should solve it. By the way, you may want to protect the settings page. Even though normal users won't see the "Access Settings" button, tech-savvy users may still be able to change it if not protected.
Nam 21:16, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for your help.
--Ogurtsow (talk) 07:51, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

Is there a Step-by-step guide?

This is very confusing to me, is there any guide?

Install the script and then go to the page Project:Medals on your wiki and wait for the script to load. It should be pretty much intuitive from there, though if you still have questions you are welcome to ask. Nam 20:38, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

Cannot add or remove medals

I recently have been unable to add or remove medals by using the Settings or source editor. The settings page displays nothing in the Medals section, and doing it manually via source editor brings up the following error: Settings not exist or broken. Reset them?. Accepting this prompt resets everything, but still does not allow me to add or remove medals.

Trashh (talk) 18:04, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for the report, it should be fixed once my edit is approved. To restore the old data after you did a reset, you can use the page's history. Nam 07:54, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
It works now. Thanks! Trashh (talk) 01:42, 14 June 2022 (UTC)

It looks like there was medals data there and then you immediately edited the page and removed it. Was is by accident? By intention? Anyway, when you visit the page now, can you see a button to initialize or edit the medals? Nam 21:36, 28 February 2024 (UTC)

Unawarding Medals

I'm considering adding this to a wiki I'm on as users have previously requested of a way of adding custom pronouns. I also see the benefit of awarding users for noteworthy behavior, however, before deciding to import, I'm curious if it's possible to unaward a medals, in circumstance a user request for them to be removed? —Delta System🪐 13:25, 29 June 2024 (UTC)

For a way to indicate pronouns, you could use MastheadGender, which directly takes the gender indicated in the preferences, so that users can change gender at will if required. This may be simpler, since medals can only be added manually by sysops and moderators. Of course, medals also work, but it will not be automatic.
And yes, it is possible to remove medals from users or even delete a medal if you want to. Soronos (talk · contributions) 20:37, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
Well, the issue is custom pronouns (they/them, ne/nem, xe/xem). I already have MasterheadGender imported there!
Thank you for the reponse. Delta System🪐 03:04, 30 June 2024 (UTC)

Why is this happening?

The medals js is Bob Esponja Wiki is already put in MediaWiki:ImportJS and the medals are here (https://bobesponja.fandom.com/wiki/Bob_Esponja_Wiki:Medallas) but the user's medals (medallas de usuario in spanish) dont appear. Then why does it appear in pages like Wiki Freddy Fazbear's Pizza (in spanish, not english). Pls tell me Neringa0516 (talk) 16:23, 16 May 2025 (UTC)

Interesting that you have a spanish wiki not under an /sp path.
Anyway, use https://bobesponja.fandom.com/wiki/Bob_Esponja_Wiki:Medals - the page is called "Medals" regardless of the wiki's language.
