Map Initial Position Bug

When enableSidebar is set to true for a map, and sidebarInitialState is set to hide, when the map page loads, the map will shift to the right as if to make room for the sidebar even though the sidebar doesn't show up. The position of the map is then fixed either by showing and hiding the sidebar, making the map fullscreen, or by dragging the map slightly, any of which will cause the map to snap back to its proper centered location (in the case of showing the sidebar, its relative centered location).

An example of this behaviour can be found here on the NoPixel wiki: https://nopixel.fandom.com/wiki/Map:Los_Santos

Fixed! Thanks again for the thorough report :) Macklin (talk) 20:50, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick fix, and my pleasure! I very much enjoy using the things that you make, and I'm glad to help make them better in any way that I can! :) Very much looking forward to the planned features for MapsExtended because the NoPixel Wiki just recently started a new map project, and this JS Enhancement has been incredibly useful so far.
Thank you for doing what you do, and looking forward to future updates (whenever you get around to them, of course)!

Greatly appreciate it! There's a huge update coming that I've been working on for months now, adds pretty much all the planned features and more. Had to move beyond the script being just a bunch of hacks and workarounds, it's now more a complete rewrite/reimplementation for less jank, better performance, and more features over the standard maps. Hopefully I'll get to the point where it's good enough to be released, but yeah these things take time in between work, wiki editing, and other projects.

MapsExtended not working on new wikis

Hi! I recently restored an old wiki on a little-known project, and found that MapsExtended doesn't work on the new wikis: for example, the "magnifying glass" for searching by markers doesn't appear.

Could this be related to Fandom's transition to MediaWiki 1.43? By the way, here are examples of it not working: https://sublustria1063.fandom.com/ru/wiki/Map:Августа (restored) https://cocem.fandom.com/ru/wiki/Map:Первая_Гражданская_война (just created it to check that it doesn't work on other wikis) Engineer56 (talk) 15:27, 24 January 2025 (UTC)

I want to add that the disabledCategories parameter is also not working properly. I'm not sure when it started but back in October 2024 I had disabled categories that weren't displayed in the filter/list but now (February 2025), they do actually show up even though neither the global or local JSON/config has been modified since October. Heya! Unfortunately The script will not work on wikis that did not have MapsExtended installed prior to the November 2024 update to Interactive Maps due to Fandom moving to a canvas implementation of map markers rather than the old element-based implementation that much of the functionality of the script was based around. There are a bunch of existing wikis that continue to use the element implementation (which from what I can tell, is based on an internal flag that is set wiki-wide), but even those will have some issues because of maps now assuming that in most cases the canvas implementation will be used. I've been working on shifting things over and merging the new updates, and until that is done I'll be changing the status of the script to unstable.
If you still want to use the script, you'll have to switch over to the old element-based engine. You can message staff via a support ticket and request this, but keep in mind it comes at the cost of performance which may be a dealbreaker for particularly large maps. If you choose to remove the script later, you'll have to ask to have this reverted. Macklin (talk) 14:00, 11 April 2025 (UTC)

Being able to define an area linked to a cursor

Hello!

I don't know if it's a planned feature but being able to graphically select (with the mouse, for example) an area that is linked to a cursor and that this area is visible would be a very welcome addition for defining territories or areas of influence (or even for delineating a country's borders).

Thank you in advance for these features and for all your hard work!
